Trending Twenty-third week

“It is in our nature to explore, to reach out into the unknown. The only true failure would be not to explore at all.”- Ernest Shackleton
On 30th January 2023, Grade 3 students set out to explore some unknown places in Hyderabad. Our first stop was the Khajaguda Rock Formation which spanned an area of approximately 180 acres of ‘erosional geological formations’ or shapes and forms that the rocks took.  Research claims that these rocks came into existence with the formation of Earth’s crust. Students were fascinated to be surrounded by these uniquely shaped rocks that we can say are as old as our planet earth.
It was a unique experience to see the large giant rocks lay there serenely with pride and dignity, watching over the city dwellers as they continued to go around indulging in converting the green spaces into concrete jungles for more human habitation.

Our next destination was the Gandipet Landscaped garden beautifully set out in the lap of the legendary Osman Sagar complimented with the colourful hues of nature's abundant floral retreat.
Students observed and explored two completely contrasting areas, from the rustic beauty of the rock formation to the creative expression of a human-made landscape garden. Students were intrigued by the visuals and had many questions as they explored the sites.

The SEE-THINK-WONDER thinking strategy provided a pathway for students to reflect and express their wonderings. The experience of being in these places has been a great way to probe into our unit on Explorations. It has certainly chalked out a roadmap for inquiring deeper into the new learnings,  discoveries, opportunities, and new understanding.

Ms Karishma's mindfulness session focussing on expressing our feelings in words. She narrated an interesting story followed by meaningful actions.

Students used 'Solo Taxonomy' gestures to express their understanding of the concept of multiplication of numbers we have learned so far. They also practised the multiplication of numbers by 12 by solving number and picture problems.

The concept of the division was also introduced to the students during this week through a game of grouping. Thereafter, they were guided to solve some problems related to the concept. They were given a choice to work either individually or in groups.

This week's assembly focus was 'Cultures around the world, and heritage' conducted by Grade 2 students. The entire Junior School participated and enjoyed the assembly. Daycare students also performed a dance.

In English, students read the books of their choice and wrote book reviews and summaries. For guided reading, students read their books with their group members followed by responding to the activities mentioned in their books.

During Fun Zone, Iqra had some magic tricks up her sleeve, and Nidhi conducted art and craft activities. Whereas, Siddhannth, Agrim, and Srithik had football and basketball tricks in the playground.

Students have been provided with a ‘Personal Inquiry planning’ template to generate ideas. They may read the book they have selected or use the websites provided to research their chosen subject. They may also use other resources to inquire such as child-friendly newspapers or magazines, etc.

From local to global: As a part of their action, students researched about cultures ranging from self, community and the different countries around the world. They presented their findings with their peers and are planning to share them through a display board with the learning community.
During Hindi lessons, students presented their stories to their peer group. They participated in outdoor activities and completed the task with the group. They also completed their reading assessment individually.
For their Enrichment, students had their last session for the sport of Basketball this week. From next week onwards, they will have Football for five weeks.
