A Short and Sweet Week

The start of this week was heartening to see our Junior School students perform at the assembly on Tuesday. It was to mark and celebrate our 75th Independence Day and Janmashtami.
For the UOI sessions, both the sections came together again to brainstorm and understand the importance of finding information from different sources. They were probed with questions and had to come up with their responses in pairs and groups. As a follow-up, they were guided to interview people with a questionnaire.
Students read aloud a book titled-'Gas Happens' by Julia Cook. This book is relevant to our current unit of inquiry where we are inquiring into the theme of 'Who we are' focussing on 'Health and Well-being'.
Students enjoyed reading the book to their friends and learned how to react to certain situations in their lives.
For the student-led session during Fun Zone, Sayesha conducted an experiment- Lava lamp, Arushi led the Yoga session, and Keshav and Arjun displayed and taught us some drum beats.
Students also had an opportunity to present the research they had done over the long weekend about Independence day.
Reading books is both a joy and art. Students feel happy to choose a book of their choice and read to themselves and their friends.
During the SEL lesson this week, Ms Latha introduced the students to Bio Poem. All the students wrote their own Bio poems as guided by her and with Ms Laila's help that day.
A book called 'Diary of a Worm' by Doreen Cronin was read aloud to the students. Students identified the special characteristics of the book and brainstormed the elements of a diary.
During the guided reading session, students read their Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) books to themselves and their friends. One of the groups started writing the summary of the book read.
During our Maths lessons this week, students developed their understanding of place value further by creating the human house of place value. Each group of students were assigned numbers on whiteboards which were announced and displayed to create 4 and 5-digit numbers. They also swapped places to create varied numbers that further helped them to order those numbers in ascending order. We also looked into the expansion of numbers. We will continue this concept next week to gain a deeper understanding of the concept of ordering and the expansion of numbers.
In their Hindi lessons, students have participated in peer and self-reading activities. They have learned hard words with their meanings from the story 'Ras bare phal' aur 'Taazi-Taazi sabziyan'.
During the Telugu lessons, students used Flashcards to sequence Telugu letters. They also played snakes and ladders with 2 and 3-letter words.
It was indeed a short and sweet week! :)
