We began our Monday morning by addressing the significance of the 'International Day of Peace'. Students watched a video about a young girl who wished for peace in the world. They were then guided to choose a journal prompt and write in their books.
Students have been introduced to the concept of 'Digital Citizenship' through some interesting learning engagements. They also watched a video to understand their responsibility as a digital citizen.
Then, they were given some time to reflect and discuss in pairs what responsibility and digital citizenship mean to them and share with the whole class.
After that, some pairs shared their responsibility towards themselves, some shared their responsibility toward the community, and some shared their responsibility toward the world.
During the writing lesson, we continued to make connections with text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world.
On Tuesday, we had an assembly marking the 'International Day of Peace'. Grade
3 students presented contrasting freeze frames showing a conflict on the
basketball court which was resolved through a well-thought-out solution. The whole Junior School came together in a wonderful
rendition of “Imagine,” by John Lennon, a long-time advocate of world peace. As they left the assembly, students were invited to pin
messages to the Peace Board.
In the second freeze frame, they displayed the scenes to resolve conflict while they transitioned from one class to another.
Students were also provided with an opportunity to reflect individually on their responsibility as digital citizens. This was done with the help of a template of 'Rings of Responsibility'.
Our student council representative, Arjun volunteered to read a book aloud during the last few minutes of the school day.
In Maths, students have been practising rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. They have been working on solving various problems by looking at the picture prompts provided. Students used the number line tool to understand the concept better.
Students were given two different titles and genres during the library lesson. They were guided to compare and contrast the two books. The objective was to let them identify the features of fiction and non-fiction books.
In the SEL lesson, Ms. Latha reinforced the importance of wearing appropriate uniforms at school. She also mentioned how changing uniforms on time can enhance our self-management skills.
Later, she continued with the book titled- 'Making Friends is an Art'. Then, she guided the students to relate different colours with themselves through a paper doll colouring activity.
Students thoroughly enjoyed this activity while colouring their paper dolls.
Students reflected on the different books that were read aloud in the class by choosing a title of their choice. They mentioned their learnings from those titles or what they liked about those books.
Students also watched a video about rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. They also practised some problems from the video.
During the guided reading lesson, students read the books in their groups. They were also mixed groups this time where they had the opportunity to explore other level books.
Nidhi volunteered to show how to draw fireworks in the last few minutes of the school day. Students enjoyed drawing it on whiteboards and with colourful markers.
