Four more weeks to go!!!

Monday morning began with a guest speaker in our class, Mr. Suresh Emandi, the head of security of the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad. He took us through a presentation focussing on risk management and showed us different spaces of the school where risk management is in place. Fire safety, medical emergencies, and safety from theft and pests were also discussed.
Thereafter, we reflected on the guest session with the visible thinking routine- 5 Ws and 1H. We also practised for the assembly and demonstrated Shake Out Drill for the Junior School students on the next day. Students wrote their reflections individually.
The personal inquiry projects were presented on Monday and Friday this week. Students displayed their passions enthusiastically.

For their UOI sessions, students were guided to write their reports using the research they conducted on the natural and human-made disasters. They are also getting acquainted to the writing process that has five stages- Prewrite, Rough draft, Edit, Revise, and Publish. They prepared their first drafts in groups,  and pairs.
During the Maths inquiry sessions, they are adding numbers using mental strategies of making 10s and 100s. They practised and solved number and picture problems in their books.
Musical practice is on swing as the date is approaching. Students are practising for their performances.
During Fun Zone, we had a couple of volunteers this week. One of them shared interesting facts about the different species of Sharks.
Mindfulness session by Ms. Karishma, one of the parents from our learning community.
Shake Out Drill in the Junior School was held on Thursday morning. The entire school from Grade 1 to 5 participated in this Earthquake drill.
Students were provided with some case studies to identify how people respond to the changes in the environment in the event of disasters. They had to analyze them and respond to the guiding questions.
Students also revised and edited their rough drafts to publish their final reports. They were also provided with a checklist to ensure they have included all the features of a report.
Students read their guided reading books in groups. As a follow-up, they were introduced to the elements of a story. They had to summarise their stories using the elements- characters, setting, plot, problem, solution, and climax.
During the Hindi lessons, students prepared a brochure about 'Natural Disasters'. They also took an action by creating awareness amongst the staff of the school community.
It was their last enrichment session of Volleyball on Friday this week. The enrichment with another sport will resume after the December break.
The art room has been a hive of activity as students have been working on the backdrop for the Junior School Musical, which will happen in December. Grade 3 has been very active in this group work. It has been wonderful to see each student participate so enthusiastically.

This task has also given the students an opportunity to exercise tolerance and be open-minded, as they have to accept each other’s ideas and suggestions. Some of them have also shown great leadership skills. The backdrop is huge and because of that, it has to be painted in many panels, which will be joined together, later. This situation has also made the students aware of the importance of collaboration and cross-checking to see if the panels will blend in well together. This process has been a very enriching experience for the students.
Grade 3 students had a lot of opportunities to come together and collaborate this week.
