This week was full of excitement not only amongst the students but also among parents. We had some guest speakers from different cultural backgrounds who volunteered to share their culture with the students. Ms Brahmani Nara (Devaansh's mother) was with us on Wednesday, discussing her family's culture, customs, and traditions. On Friday, we had Ms Epsita Patnaik and Mr Ritesh Mohanty (Rishaan's parent), who took us through their culture. From clothing to cuisines, festivals, and celebrations, we learned a lot about their beliefs and values. It was fascinating to witness the responses and inquiries coming from our audience- Grade 3 students.
After both guest sessions, students brainstormed on the different factors that shape cultures which were beautifully recorded in their books. Also, some of the factors came out of the box that was not discussed during the sessions. It was interesting to see the spark of thinking ignited in the students by our guests.
Another important discussion that took place during this week was on 'Climate Change'. Our SDG focus from the previous unit, which we are taking forward as a part of our action. In order to make action meaningful, students are deepening their understanding.
Rishaan took an action of creating a model to explain the concept of Climate Change after conducting his research. He presented it and explained it to his peers with pride. :)
Arjun, our student council representative and wellness in charge, made some important announcements for his friends in class.
Ms Pushpalatha, a former teacher of the Academy, joined us on a Zoom call from Jakarta, Indonesia, with a few of her students. They were with us to share their experiences of an Earthquake that recently struck the place. From experiencing the tremors to evacuation from the school, they shared quite a few details from that day. Ms Pushpa also spoke about the devastating experiences that happened in the city and about the Rapid Response Force for Disaster management in her country. Students got first-hand information that helped them extend their learning for their inquiry on risks and hazards, also climate change.
For Maths, students continue to practise and solve subtraction problems in centres. They are also learning Maths vocabulary during this learning engagement.
During the Hindi lessons, students watched videos of the two famous stories- Akbar and Birbal and Tenaliramlingam. They have taken notes and identified the differences between the two cultures from these stories.
Our annual Musical is fast approaching, and students are working really while practising for the dance moves and grooves. :)

ReplyDeleteDear Ms. Epsita, it was definitely our pleasure to have you and Mr. Ritesh with us. Students and teachers learned so much about your culture. The students were able to identify the similarities between your and the other cultures they learned during the week. Thank you once again for accepting our invitation and for making it possible to come to our classroom. We sincerely appreciate your efforts! :)
