Thrilling Week-13

During this week, students identified the differences and similarities between hazards and disasters in pairs and groups with the help of a Venn Diagram or a T-chart. They conducted the research last weekend and were guided to share their understanding through a visible thinking tool.
A book titled- 'The Sound of Silence' was read aloud by the students in the class.
In our writing lesson, Ms Elizabeth introduced us to another trait of writing called 'Sentence Fluency'. She got a snake skin to the classroom and guided us to create sentences using the words that were discussed while observing the snake skin.
Students were provided with a word bank and an exemplar to create sentences. They enjoyed creating sentences on their own.
Students also displayed their understanding of risks and hazards through a visible thinking tool called 'The Frayer model'. They had to define the two terms and write about their characteristics, examples, and non-examples.
Students are having fun while building sand castles in the play area.
In Maths, students continue to solve picture, story, and number problems related to addition with a variety of strategies discussed in class. They also enjoyed using outdoor spaces and number cards and chalk in order to enhance their understanding of the concept.

To deepen our understanding of risks, hazards, and disasters, we invited Ms Keshwani. Ms. Sonia is REGIONAL PROGRAM MANGER for Disaster Risk Reduction, working with the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat since 5 years. She is also a team of member of National level Search and Rescue Team (SART) who are well trained to rescue people during and after disasters.

She exquisitely took us through some of the live examples from her experiences. Students enthusiastically participated in the discussions. They were actively responding to the picture prompts, and the concepts of risks and hazards were further clarified among the students.
Ms Keshwani also demonstrated the ‘Shake Out’ drill, which is required to be performed when an earthquake occurs. The 'Shake Out' drill is an initiative by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat that is conducted every year to prepare communities.
The students were guided to reflect on the guest session using the 3-2-1 reflection thinking tool. 3 things they learned, 2 things that were most interesting for them, and 1 question they still have.
We also started with another session of 'Digital Citizenship' focussing on the importance of 'Password'. We will continue this in the coming week.
For our language lessons, we also introduced students to the genre of report writing. It was a collaborative session with all the Grade 3 students. They were divided into groups to discuss the features of a report through non-fiction books. We also shared with them a planning process for preparing their draft for the report writing. We will be continuing this next week.
During the Hindi lessons, students were assessed on their reading skills, and they also completed the spell drill. The students participated in a group activity and performed roleplays.

Students are having fun and enjoying to learn the sport of Volleyball during their Enrichment time.
We have also started practising choreography for our dance for the upcoming and the most happening event- Musical. It is going to be a busy and hectic half of the term for all our students.
