New Year, New Beginnings, and Celebrations

With the start of the year 2023, students' enthusiasm reaches another level. They came back all energized to share about their holidays and stories of celebrations of new years' eve and the first of January. They began this by answering some guiding questions that were provided to them. What was their best/ favourite part of their holiday, and how did they celebrate the new year?
They were also given an opportunity to share with their buddies to identify the similarities and differences between their celebrations.

For our Maths inquiry, we revised the concepts learned so far and reviewed our learning through practise of number and story problems using different strategies. We also began with learning the basic operation of multiplication.
For our SEL lesson, Ms Latha inquired about everyone's passions and goals. Then, she divided the students into three groups and gave them a few cards related to mindfulness. Students worked in groups and shared their understanding with each other.
Students enjoyed reading the guided reading books in their groups. They learned to summarize fiction and non-fiction texts. Students also wrote a story about their cultures and conducted research on some of the elements of culture.
For their personal inquiries, they were guided to align them with the sustainable development goals. Students were given a choice to select one or two SDGs and work towards them.
We also inquired about new year celebrations around the world using an article and a video.

During Fun Zone, a group of students volunteered to lead a Maths session for their peers. They planned to conduct a session for the multiplication of numbers in four centres with four different strategies.
Students reflected on their last term's goals and set some new goals for themselves with a planning sheet provided to them. They were guided to think of two academic and one personal goal for this term.
For their Hindi sessions, they read a poem related to Makar Sankranti and created colourful posters. They also learned Ginti in Hindi and created their own stories and puppets.

The students have been practising for their upcoming assembly on Tuesday. We are looking forward to presenting our cultures before Junior School students.
