Terrific Twenty-First Week

Students had a lovely time preparing for their class assembly, and they expressed their learning of cultures through a presentation on Tuesday.
They also sang a song which was much appreciated. The students also presented a video where the members of the learning community expressed their views about the school's culture.
That morning, we also had a guest visiting us from our sister Academy in Maputo. Mr Messi came to our classroom and discussed greetings in different languages. He also helped us in centres to practise Maths concepts.
In Art, students have been learning about Islamic patterns. During the art lessons, Ms Florence provided students with Islamic patterns and designs to draw and colour.

To enhance the knowledge of Islamic patterns in art and architecture, a session was conducted during the art lesson. Students learned about the significance behind the shapes, patterns, and structures used in Islamic art and architecture. They were then guided to observe the patterns around them to make connections.

The past couple of weeks has been so busy, creative, and incredibly informational for grade 3 students. In art class, they learnt about Islamic patterns and gained an aesthetic appreciation of the shapes, colour and intricacy of these beautiful designs. With additional support from Ms Anjum, our grade 3A homeroom teacher, the students gained more in-depth knowledge of these patterns. Ms Anjum kindly shared her knowledge of Islamic patterns during an excellent interactive presentation, which was also attended by Grade 2 students. The students understood the significance of the shapes and colours and also where these patterns are commonly applied. In collaboration with Ms Vajra, our PE teacher, the students used these colourful patterns to embellish recycled paint buckets, which we have transformed into drums for our Junior School Sports Day next week! We can hardly wait!

Just to illustrate how impactful the knowledge of Islamic patterns has been, our young learners are constantly remarking…”I saw Islamic patterns on the wall….there are Islamic patterns in front of grades 4 and 5”….etc. This is fascinating because most of these students have been at the academy since Grade 1 and have seen these patterns on architectural screens daily, but it is only now that they are connecting and creating meaning! (Write-up by Ms Florence)

During Hindi lessons, students started their lessons with mindfulness and participated in outdoor activities. They read a story titled 'Todo Nahi Jodo'. They discussed their best scene with their group and integrated the task with 'Learner profile attributes'.
To culminate our unit of inquiry, students reflected on the different concepts learned. They watched a video related to the 'Cultural Iceberg' to review the concepts and to understand the underlying aspects/ factors of culture- concrete and abstract.
During the language lessons, students have been reading books of their choice and guided reading books. As a follow-up, they reviewed their books using a template provided. They have been learning to write short summaries and give their opinion about the book, along with identifying the genre of the books read.
For their Maths inquiry, students have been practising the concept of multiplication of numbers. They are using different mental and written strategies to solve number, picture, and story problems.
For the fun zone session, we had volunteers for teaching a song(a self-created one) and how to make a paper kite. Students enjoy learning from their peers too.
Mindfulness session by Ms Karishma outdoors helps our students develop their focus and concentration. It also provides them with an opportunity to connect with nature and the environment around them.
For their personal inquiries, students were provided with a template to make a note of their interests, goals, and their plan of action. They will be paired with a buddy with common interests for them to research further.
Students are looking forward to the upcoming 'Sports Day', and we all are looking forward to seeing everyone cheering our learners.
