"Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle" - Christian D Larson
This week, students were engaged in learning more about Fractions in Maths, Matter and Materials in the unit of inquiry and continued with the Literature study in Language lessons.
During their Maths lessons, the students learned about comparing fractions and practised the concept using different strategies. For example- they drew the fraction models, created a fractional number line and shaded the parts of a whole.
On Tuesday, students celebrated World Book and Copyright Day. After the assembly, students visited different centres arranged and led by Grade 5 students to understand the different genres that are identified in English language learning.
A variety of learning engagements were designed by the Grade 5 students in different centres where the students participated actively.
For their unit of inquiry sessions, students are inquiring into the Transdisciplinary theme- 'How the world works' focussing on Matter and Materials. They discussed the theme as a whole group and then explained their understanding in smaller groups.
They were then provided with some time to write their questions related to the unit, which will help in driving the inquiry further.
They displayed their questions on the 'Wonder Wall'. The questions were discussed with the students to intrigue their curiosity and find answers.
Ms Latha continued the Literature Study and read aloud a book titled 'What is your name?' to the students. The book was about the importance of name being the identity of an individual.
Then, the students continued to read the book - The One and Only Ivan in their groups and performed the literature circle roles.
While sharing their research on the different states of matter, students discussed and shared some examples of solids, liquids, and gases. A small demonstration was also led by the teacher, Ms Anjum.
Students also looked at a comprehension passage to enhance their understanding of matter and answered the questions provided.
Guided reading in groups- Students read the books in their groups. As a follow-up, students were guided to make connections with the units of inquiry they have been learning.
Students were a part of reviewing our POI for the current year. They gave their opinion by mentioning what went well for each unit of inquiry and how we could make it better next year.
In Hindi, students participated in group learning engagement and presented their own stories with the use of puppets. They watched Panchatantra stories and related them with IB learner profile attributes. They practised 'Ra' matra words.
It was a fun-filled week with loads of learning.
