For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.- Martin Luther King Jr.
In the campus' lush greens, students explore themselves through mindfulness.
Maths around them- Students have been busy exploring shapes and angles around them. They also learned about the different types of lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, and lines of symmetry.
They watched videos related to the concepts and practised drawing different types of triangles and measuring angles.
Nidhi volunteered to explain the concept of symmetry and symmetrical lines (vertical, horizontal, and diagonal) to her friends.
This week's assembly was dedicated to writing and writers. On Tuesday, students
revisited the Six Plus One Traits of Writing during a 'Writers Assembly' that
celebrated the writing skills and longer-term projects that students had been
diligently working on all year. Students from grade 5 led the journey through the
traits of Ideas, Organization, Conventions, Word Choice, Voice, Sentence
Fluency, and Presentation with their jingles sung to the tunes of popular
children’s verses and songs. Ms Elizabeth, our English as an Additional
Language Teacher, facilitated the sharing of exemplary writing pieces from
various grade levels in the genres of Book Reports, Poems, Personal Narratives,
and Fictional Narratives in English, Telugu, and Hindi. The guest speaker was
published author Tamaara Nambiar, an academy Middle School student who is also
an alumna of the Junior School. Tamaara brought the students through the
process from Ideation to Publishing and even took them through some brainstorming
exercises. In recognition of writing as a craft and form of creative
expression, students participated in a session of “Free Writing” afterwards,
during which they could write anything of their choice. (Write-up from the weekly newsletter)
During Fun Zone, Rishaan and Ruhaan demonstrated Taekwondo and Karate. They explained that these are types of Marshall Arts and are helpful for self-defence. They also expressed that these skills require a lot of discipline and dedication.
Students practising Maths concepts in groups.
Peer learning- Students exchanged their task sheets for peer-checking. This provided them with an opportunity to learn from one another.
Literature Study: Students had their first literature study session on Friday this week. They were introduced to the book they would be analyzing during their literature circle time. Ms Latha brought both the picture book and the novel, and a lot of discussions happened in groups and as a whole grade/class.
Students were engrossed when the text was read aloud. They were engaged and excited about the literature study and took a deep interest while listening to the book read aloud by Ms Latha.
Guided reading sessions in their groups. Students read different books in their groups. As a follow-up, students were asked to write and practise the art of sequencing the events from the book they read.
During Hindi lessons, students listened to the story of Mukund and Riyaaz, read aloud by the teacher. They expressed their understanding through a VTR(Visible Thinking Routine). This engagement has been integrated with their current unit of inquiry- Peace and Conflict Resolution.
We all had fun learning different concepts during the week. Looking forward to another fun-filled week ahead!
